Andy Murray would be quite relieved to be able to finally secure a win versus Novak Djokovic

Andy Murray was relieved to be able to finally secure a win versus Novak Djokovic to clinch Rogers Cup yesterday.

In the previous eight meetings between the two players, Djokovic had beaten Murray every time. To avenge all those loses, Murray could perhaps not have chosen too many better occasions than this. Not only did he break the jinx, but, also sent a statement to his rivals ahead of making his way to Flushing Meadows.

Djokovic had pretty much won everything this season and thus, coming into this final, there was hardly anyone who was not putting his money on him. Murray’s head to head record against him was also making him the clear favourite. But, the Serb was not quite in his groove from the start. Continue reading

Andy Murray has great Record against Novak

Andy Murray is certainly not as poor a tennis player as his record against Novak Djokovic suggests. The Scot just does not seem to be ever going to get over the line versus his Serb opponent.

In the recent clash between the two which had taken place at Indian Wells, Murray had led up with quite a bit of consistency and form and his fans were hoping that he would finally be able to break the jinx, but, that was not the case to be.

It was the same sort of outcome again with Djokovic winning hands down, 6th time on the trot. Murray had a disconsolate look on his face as he confronted the media once the match was over. He said his slowness at the start gave Djokovic the edge and the match headed in only one direction from there onwards.

In the words of Murray, “I was feeling pretty good leading to this contest to be honest, but, I think I was a bit slow in the first few minutes and that might have made the difference.” Continue reading

Andy Murray still manage to have Respect all over UK after losses

Andy Murray might not have managed to win as many major titles as his compatriots and fans were expecting him to after his win in the Wimbledon Championships 2013, but, he still commands the same amount of respect in all parts of United Kingdom and the young players from there, both males and females, see him as role model.

Heather Watson, a 22 year-old female tennis player from UK, became the champion in the singles competition of the Hobart International Tennis tournament yesterday and she dedicated her win to Murray saying that the Scot has been a great inspiration over the last few years for her and many other British youngsters.

It was the second World Tennis Association title for Watson. No player from Great Britain had been able to win two titles on the tour in the female category in the last three decades. Continue reading

Andy Murray Priority trying to get Best Rankings for 2015

Andy Murray has been playing quite a lot of late. There has been hardly a week in the last couple of months in which he has remained out of action.

The Scot is actually looking to get to top 4 in the World rankings so that during the 2015 season, he manages to get easy draw in Grand Slams and other major competitions.

Murray is not too far away from getting there. He is already at the 5th position and if he does well in the Masters tournament in Paris that is coming up shortly, not only would he be able to climb further up in the rankings, he would also make it to the World Tour Finals.

However, according to Murray, if he qualifies for the finals, it’s good, but, it’s not his priority. His priority is to get as high in the rankings as possible before the season gets over.

Speaking to the reporters yesterday, the 27-year old said, “The last two months have been pretty tough on the body, but, having won a number of games out of which some were extremely close ones, I am feeling pretty confident.”

When asked about his chances of getting to the tour finals, Murray said, “Well, everybody wants to participate in it and so am I. It’s such a high level tournament, but, my main ambition at the moment is to get to 4 somehow because if I do that, I am surely going to get facilitated in terms of seeding next year.”

Murray’s opening encounter in the upcoming BNP Paribas Masters will be versus Julien Benneteau tomorrow.

That will be a second round match. Murray has cleared the first round through a bye. Benneteau, on the other hand, had to beat Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan to progress ahead.
