FISH SWIMS THROUGH

Mardy Fish has defeated Juan Monaco of Argentina in the third round of the Rogers Cup. The American player didn’t start the match well, but, he came back and stunned Monaco who is placed higher in rankings than him. Fish won the match by 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. With this victory, Fish has registered a place in the quarter finals. The match was finished in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Fish looked rusty at the start of the match and missed some opportunities. His service was broken by Monaco in the third game of the first set. Monaco held his service in the next game and made the score 3-1. Monaco got the second breakthrough in the seventh game and he took a lead of 5-2. He didn’t lose the advantage in the next game and won the first set by 6-2.

After losing the first set, Fish looked a completely different player in the second set. Monaco was able to win only one game in the second set. Fish broke Monaco’s service twice in the second set and won the second set easily by 6-1. In the third set, both the players fought hard. There was no breakthrough in the third set till the end of the eighth game. But, Fish managed to get a breakthrough in the ninth game and he held his service in the next game to win the match.

Monaco, who is the second highest ranked Argentinean player in the WTA rankings, looked completely out of shots in the second and the third set. He was weak on his service and didn’t grab the chances that came his way. On the other hand, Fish looked hungry for victory and played with a lot of enthusiasm.
